Information for Parents

Arbor - Parent Communication

The school has signed up to a service provided by Arbor. This service gives parents the school the opportunity to book and pay for breakfast club, activities and trips as well as manage your child's personal information and permissions. Once signed up, it is easiest to download the Arbor Parent Portal app.

Please speak to the office about your login for Arbor or if you have any issues using it.

Parking

Please make sure you are careful where you park outside the school in order to be considerate and safe for the children, other road users and the villagers

DO NOT PARK...

  • Blocking the entrance to Manor Road off North Street.
  • Blocking the entrance to Tinkers Crescent off Earls Barton Road.
  • On the blind bend section of the top corner of North Street.
  • On the narrow section at the bottom of North Street. otherwise large vehicles cannot get past
  • Across peoples drives.
  • Across the drop curb outside the school otherwise there is not a low kerb area to get across.
  • On the zig-zag lines.

GOOD PLACES TO PARK

These include along Earls Barton Road, along the wider section of North Street directly outside the school (avoiding the dropped curb) and along Glebe Road (there is no pavement along this area to walk back on).

In addition The Griffins Head Pub have kindly offered the use of their car park. (Please be aware that it is a business and children would need to be supervised in the area at all times.) We know it is a little walk from there, but it is a lovely way to start the day and gives you have a chance to chat along the way!

If you would like more detailed information about the best places to park a map is available from the school office.

Term Time Absence

It is a legal obligation for all parents to ensure that their child attends school for 190 days per year. Absence from school is taken very seriously and can have a profound impact on the progress in learning that children can make. Special leave request forms are available from the office for you to complete if there is an exceptional and unavoidable reason that your child cannot attend school (excluding illness). Family holidays should not be taken in term time and will be referred to the Local Authority, meaning you may be fined.

Emergency School Closure Procedures

Emergency closure for any reason

In the event of an emergency closure, all parents will be contacted through Arbor. We will also phone all parents if school closes part way through the school day. Please ensure we have up-to-date contact information for at least three contacts.

Emergency closure for bad weather including snow

In the event of emergency closure, information will be given out on local radio, we will send a message through Arbor AND we will also put the information on our school facebook and instagram pages.

If we are open on a snowy day and there is snow or ice around the village, the route in from Earls Barton and past Sywell Park is usually the easiest. It is usually best NOT to try and drive along the road at the front of the school as it remains icy for a while. If you park on Earls Barton Road or further down in the village, you will be able to walk in and also turn around the car without needing to drive up or down the hill!

Bring in those wellies if there is snow, and a warm set of clothes, including gloves, and then we will go out on our field - which is fabulous for building snowmen.
